162 × 130 Pixel is an artistic work that addresses the increasing digitalization of everyday life and its effects on personal connection.
It explores the relationship between proximity, distance, and virtuality, as well as reduction and unapproachability. Through the use of hand-carved potato stamps and a deliberately limited number of grayscale values and image points, the work establishes a connection between the digital realm and traditional artistic practices.
A fragment of a photograph was reduced to 15 grayscale values and 21,060 image points. Each individual „pixel“ was transferred onto nettle fabric by hand in a continuous, labor-intensive process using potato printing. The stamped pigment was produced using a natural binding agent made from oat flour and sustainable pigments (champagne chalk and grape seed black-the soot of charred grape seeds).
